It’s interesting times in Buenos Aires. The country’s draconian currency controls have created two conditions that benefit travelers: The unofficial “blue” currency exchange rate makes it more affordable than ever to visit the “Paris of South America.” And the inability to import goods has spurred a rush of creativity in locally-produced handicrafts, clothing and other goods. Bring cash and head to Florida Street or our favorite Cambio in the Promenade Alvear at Posadas 1564 to exchange your dollars or euros for pesos for a 25-30% discount to the official rate. Most small restaurants and shops will offer a similar rate if you ask to pay in dollars or euros.
