Traveling Gay Dads: First Family Trip With My Partner (Montana Bound!)

Our first gay family adventure—should I be nervous?

In a few days, I’ll be taking what I am deeming my first gay family trip. I’ve traveled extensively with my two sons—and I’ve traveled extensively with my partner—but the four of us have never taken a trip together. Lance and the boys get along quite well, and this trip seemed like a natural. Until I pointed out to Lance recently that he’d never been around the boys 24 hours a day for a whole week. That got him thinking a little. And me as well, I suppose. Will we get along in the car? Will everyone want to do the same activities? Who sits next to whom on the plane? Will the lack of internet connectivity and television where we’re going drive someone (me!) insane?

Traveling Gay Dads: New York In Summer With Kids? Yes! Read On

Carter, Haven, & Ammon Museum of Natural History

My husband, Sean, and my children, Carter and Ammon started summer with a one-week vacation the second week of June. Our favorite family vacation spot isn’t an amusement park or a beach it’s New York City. Ammon, Carter, Sean, and I have some special places we return to, and we add new places as Carter and Ammon get older.

Sean and I started going to New York City on a regular basis in 2004. Carter and Ammon started going with us when they were 18 months old. We have been lucky that Sean’s mother, Nana, goes with us to take care of Ammon and Carter if we go to a late-night Broadway show, but as they have gotten older, we choose shows that Carter and Ammon can enjoy as well.

Round The World With Paul And Jose: Gay Paris Update

FREEDJ
FREEDJ

ManAboutWorld Global Correspondent Paul Teixeira and his partner Jose are in the midst of an 87-day global gay adventure. He agreed to document his trip here with highlights from many destinations around the world. In his own words:

We recently spent six fabulous nights in Paris as part of our 87 day round-the-world trip, and thanks to the exclusive ManAboutWorld Paris guide, we had the inside track knowledge which made it that much easier to have an amazing time.

We must post about some additional nightlife discoveries to add to your choices. We found the newer club FREEDJ to be our favorite for most any night. They have hot friendly bartenders and a great looking clientele, both locals and visitors. On Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, they open their downstairs brick arched underground dance club to get down with some of the best current pop remixes. Sunday is their creative church themed “MESS” party with glow rings and glow rosaries, candy communion like wafers, bartenders in custom shirts and costumes, and a nun dressed DJ. This party goes until 3AM, and if you still have it in you, the staff and friends may take you to the locals after party at L’Enchanteur. You’ll get to go until 7AM at this Dance/Karaoke bar and party with most of the locals and staff at the bars in the area.

Get yourself to Paris and enjoy some of the best and varied gay nightlife in Europe!

One Hump Or Two? Post-Pride Camel Trek

camel

After a breathlessly exciting week of gay news and then Gay Pride we thought it was time for a little R&R. Well, why not try a camel trek in Western Australia? That’s exactly what ManAboutWorld Global Correspondent Michael Siebert did. Here’s his report, just in.

I’m at Cable Breach. In Broome Western Australia. I just took this picture. June-September is ideal weather in this area. The camel ride is the classic thing to do here … I was on ” tiny” the largest camel in cable beach.

Our Favorite Parting Shots: Cristian Flores’s Patagonia

Cristian Flores, Villa La Angostura, Neuquén ProvinceIn each issue we share our favorite photos from ManAboutWorld’s peripatetic Global Correspondents. We occasionally highlight some of those here. Today we explore La Angostura, Neuquen, Patagonia (in Argentina) brought to us by Cristian Flores. In his words:

Villa La Angostura is located in the province of Neuquen, in the north of Patagonia Argentina. It’s a small town, surrounded by mountains and forests originating on the shores of Lake Nahuel Huapi.

You can visit throughout the year, depending on the activities you want to perform, from June to September you can ski, because here is a major ski resort. The months with the most heat are from December to March, you can navigate the lake, you can practice water sports, or enjoy a fishing day.

Trekking through the woods, shores of a lake, riding bicycles or walking, you can do throughout the year, just depends on your spirit of adventure.

Our Favorite Parting Shots: Scott Holman’s Nepal

Scott Holman-KathmanduIn each issue we share our favorite photos from ManAboutWorld’s peripatetic Global Correspondents. We occasionally highlight some of those here. Today we explore Kathmandu, Nepal brought to us by Scott Holman. In his words:

One of my favorite shots from this trip. Kathmandu is all developing-nation chaos but it has these beautiful, colorful juxtapositions such as this popcorn seller and ice deliverer.

In spite of the craziness, Kathmandu is incredibly fascinating. Gorgeous temple districts, great food, lively street life all with a backdrop of the Himalayas. If you get the chance, have a meal on a rooftop restaurant where it all seems so much more peaceful.

Our Favorite Photos From The Current Issue: Mykonos

We asked Dillon, ManAboutWorld’s talented photo editor, to share a few words about some of his his favorite images from this month’s issue. Here’s what moved him about this image of Mykonos harbor.

When looking at this photograph, it’s hard for me not to envision a scene out of a Julie Delpley movie. One where two young lovers stroll carelessly through an exotic city, frequently happening across charming locations such as this small portside taverna.  It is nestled in a sandy patch of shoreline carved out along the Mykonos harbor, where the narrow hillside streets give way to a vast expanse of water and small motorboats. Conversation is illuminated by a single strand of electric bulb lights, strung up to the mast of an old fishing vessel long since settled ashore. What more perfect setting for a moment in life, one worth re-watching time and time again.

Find lots more fabulous images in our June issue. It’s also packed full of hot summer travel tips.
