The Gay Graves of Brooklyn

gaygraves

The Gay Graves Tour, a one-of-a-kind tour at Green-Wood Cemetery, a National Historic Landmark in Brooklyn, returns for spring 2015. The tour will introduce you to the famous and the not-so-famous gay men and lesbians who are among the permanent residents at Green-Wood. The Gay Graves Tour is conducted entirely on foot. Tickets are $30 per person.

Beginning at the fabulous Victorian Gothic entry gate to Green-Wood, we visit the final resting places of four gay composers: Louis Moreau Gottschalk, Leonard Bernstein, Paul Jabara and Fred Ebb, as well as those of the groundbreaking lesbian artists, Violet Oakley and Emma Stebbins; plus others.

Amid centuries-old trees, fabulous works of art, and bucolic surroundings enjoy a fascinating dose of gay history, New York history and U.S. history during this unique tour.

The Gay Graves Tour will be conducted on Sunday, May 3rd, beginning promptly at 11 AM at Green-Wood Cemetery, 500 25th St. at Fifth Ave., Brooklyn (The 25th St. R train stop is only 1 block from Green-Wood. From Manhattan & Queens, ride the express Q train to DeKalb Ave., Brooklyn, changing there to a local R train.)

For further details and to buy tickets, please visit http://walkaboutny.com/the-tours/the-gaygraves-tour/  and if your travels include final resting places, be on the lookout for “Departing Shots” by JJ Keyes in our May issue with coverage of famous cemeteries around the world.

Drinking For A Good Travel-related Cause! Alturi, EuroPride and GAYography

AS seen in gay travel magazine ManAboutWorld

From our global correspondent Steve Roth who is also a co-founder of Alturi, check out a fun gay party that will also support some worthy causes. The party is co-sponsored by GAYography which is the brainchild of another of our global correspondents, Ashton Giese.

On Wednesday, April 22, the fast-growing LGBT travel weekly news-update, GAYography brief will host an event to introduce Alturi, a new online platform that enables people to take a stand against the violence and oppression facing the international LGBT community. The event, taking place at Therapy, will also be a kickoff for EuroPride 2015 Riga and will feature great travel-related raffle prizes, two-for-one drink specials and music by VJ ohRicky, who will spin EuroVision hits all evening.

Run, Don’t Walk, To Tel Aviv Gay Pride

israel 2Update, April 17, 2015: This post was published 2 years ago and updated today. Tel Aviv Pride week kicks off this year June 7, 2015 with the big day on Friday, June 12, 2015. For more information about activities, click here. To plan a trip, visit the website of our correspondent (and inbound tour operator specializing in Israel), OutStandingTravel.com

Tel Aviv has come into its own in recent year with a gay scene as large as many similar size cities in North America and, depending on your tastes, with some of the hottest guys in the world. Exhibit A is the irresistibly hot Ori Avrahami, pictured above and below, the muscular cover model for F.O.D’s 2013 Pride issue. L

We sent a writer to Pride and produced our own Tel Aviv guide. Get an all-access subscription or purchase our Tel Aviv issue for a roundup of Pride activities as well as recommendations for where to stay, eat, play/meet and more.

Additionally blessed with a terrific beach, really nice weather, great food and proximity to popular Middle East attractions from religious sites in Jerusalem and the Dead Sea to Petra and more, Tel Aviv is well worth a visit. We love it during Gay Pride when all the boys come out to play from throughout the region. Tel Aviv Gay Pride is Friday June 15 but there are events throughout the week leading up to Pride. And now another look at this hot Israeli model:

5 Things You Can’t Miss In Palm Springs, California

palmsprings

Palm Springs’ heyday may have begun with the early movie and TV stars, but the town’s gay renaissance began in the ‘80s, when gay Angelenos started buying the mid-century modern homes in a then seedy downtown. Today, Palm Springs is a stylish and popular weekend getaway from September through May, and never more glorious than it is right now. When LA is a “chilly” 68-70° in the winter and spring, Angelenos head to sunny Palm Springs for warm swimming pool weather. It’s a popular gay destination, but it’s a relatively small city, with a population of under 50,000 residents. The few gay bars and clubs it has are often deserted midweek, even in season, and when the temperature soars in the summer, the town really slows down.Continue reading “5 Things You Can’t Miss In Palm Springs, California”

NYTimes: On A Gay Cruise, Just One of the Guys

12GAYCRUISE1-superJumbo-v8

The New York Times takes an interesting look inside gay cruises and comes away saying “…The sense of freedom was powerful: You could be old or young, slim or heavy, and could have a loud, drunken cruise, a quiet romantic one, or even a naughty one. The many people I met who had taken multiple Atlantis cruises, 10 or even 20 or more, are clearly on to something.”

I hadn’t expected to fit in on this cruise. I thought the Atlantis experience might be too intense for me; I’d heard stories about the costumes and assumed that only impossibly young gay men with untraceable amounts of body fat would be on board. I figured that my partner, Brett, and I would feel awfully out of place.

More than 1,000 beds have opened in Cuba, according to this article from the AP, with 40 percent of them in Havana.

“The popular online home-rental service Airbnb will allow American travelers to book lodging in Cuba starting Thursday in the most significant U.S. business expansion on the island since the declaration of detente between the two countries late last year,” said the AP.
